Alive in Christ

The purpose of our parish Faith Formation program is to not only instill a love of Christ in our children and teach them the fundamentals of our faith, but also to reach out to the parents and provide them catechesis and evangelization. I know it is a huge task to get all of the registrations complete, rosters created, catechists trained, and placed and children attending. Now that is accomplished, what is next?

The first and most regular thing we do is send home the family pages that are including in the formation texts that we use (our parish uses the Alive in Christ and Allelu! texts from Our Sunday Visitor). These are great tools for interested parents to start discussion about the day’s lesson.

Our Adult FF Coordinator conducts periodic sessions for parents to attend while their children are in class. This session is called “Starting Points” and helps parents with a road map on how to get from the faith-place they are now to a place with a deeper relationship with Christ.

Lastly, we are working toward a literature rack near the Faith Formation classrooms with Catholic reference materials for parents to take and read while their children are in session.

When we keep the parents connected and provide ways to continue their own Faith Formation, they become more confident in teaching the Faith in their home!
