Mass Readings: Isaiah 26:7-9,12,16-19/ Matthew 11:28-30
Today’s Gospel offers rest and a lightening of burdens. My burdens have never been physical ones. I don’t need or want help moving my sofa or pulling out the dryer to clean behind it. I need and want Jesus Christ to occupy my mind. That’s where the offered rest is needed.
My twirling and spinning mind can exhaust me. Yet, when I start the day reading Scripture, I find the twirling subsides. By returning again and again to those verses, I can talk to God throughout the day. When I start trying to solve the world’s problems or even familial ones, a return to the day’s reading centers and calms me. When my spirit stays linked to that of Jesus Christ, I no longer feel as if my head is in a yoke.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, thank You for offering peace.
