Mass Readings: Hosea 11:1-4,8c-9/ Matthew 10:7-15
“Whatever town or village you enter, look for a worthy person in it, and stay there until you leave,” Jesus tells His disciples in today’s Gospel. Further, He cautions them not to waste time on non-receptive people. His compelling advice serves us well today. As Christians, we sometimes believe we must expend equal energy on all people. Yet again and again in the Gospels we see Jesus leave a given town or situation because His message isn’t received. And thus, Jesus doesn’t insist that we try and try with everyone, no matter the circumstances.
We can often do the most good, if we don’t waste our time banging our egos against a brick wall. In our daily lives, we need to heed Jesus’ advice and move out of the way.
Prayer: Lord, help me discern when to persist and when to step aside.
