Mass Readings: Acts 8:26-40/John 6:44-51
Sharing the Good News
Today’s first reading is about an activity that many Catholics tend to avoid: evangelizing. The mere thought of sharing my faith sometimes leaves me tongue-tied. Philip’s tongue isn’t tied when he encounters an Ethiopian who’s reading Isaiah. Philip asks if the man understands what it means and he replies, “How can I, unless someone instructs me?” There’s the reason to overcome our reluctance to talk about God and our faith.
People don’t wake up one day and say, “I think there’s someone named Jesus. I think God loves me. I’m going to find a church.” Those who don’t know God — or who have distorted images of God — need words of love and wisdom, offered wherever we meet them.
Prayer: Spirit of the Living God, help me to lovingly tell others about You.
