Mass Readings: 1 Kings 18:41-46/Matthew 5:20-26

Reconciliation with God

We humans are incomplete and damaged vessels and that reality can lead us to make mistakes and to sin. Too often, however, especially in contemporary society, we’re not willing to admit our brokenness, that often manifests itself in estrangement from God. Today’s Gospel prompts us to reflect on what we often do: We abuse our relationships with others and are unwilling to seek forgiveness. Jesus clearly says that we must acknowledge our sinfulness and seek reconciliation.

Today, let’s take the somewhat perilous, but absolutely necessary journey of introspection, admit our failures, and seek to find reconciliation with our neighbor and God.

Prayer: Father, help me to recognize my sins and give me the courage to seek forgiveness.
