Lent survival tip No. 6: Sign on the dotted line

Your parish is your family. How well do you know the people around you? Your parish has needs. Are you looking for ways to fulfill them? For almsgiving this week, try finding a couple ways (Just a couple mind you. Sign up for too much, and you’ll need to revisit tip No. 5.) to get more involved at your parish.

Lectors, extraordinary ministers of holy Communion, ushers, greeters, sacristans, musicians and more are needed for the Liturgy of the Mass. Catechists are needed for religious education. Food is needed for retreats and fundraisers. Chaperones are needed for youth group activities. Leaders are needed to maintain and start up ministries.

Call the office, read the bulletin, visit the website or stop at one of those tables that pop up in the vestibule. Don’t worry — you won’t have to sign your life away.

Each week during Lent I am sharing a quick tip on each of the three disciplines of the season: prayer, fasting and almsgiving. So tune in throughout the coming weeks for more ideas! May God bless your efforts this second week of Lent!
