Mass Readings: Acts 20:28-38/John 17:11b-19

Persevere in Faith

The author of the Letter to the Hebrews writes, “Let us . . . persevere in running the race that lies before us” (12:1). In today’s readings, both St. Paul and Jesus encourage us to persevere on the race of life, to enter the narrow road, the only path that leads to eternal life. Paul offers the Church of Ephesus his “farewell address” telling them he has given them all they need to run the race well. Jesus prays to the Father that His followers will meet the challenge before them, guarded by God.

Contemporary life throws us many curves and it’s difficult to stay on the proper path. That’s why we need to concentrate on the road, always keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the source of our belief, the goal of our life.

Prayer: Almighty God and Father, grant me the grace to persevere in following Your Son.
