‘Why Did You Doubt?’
Today’s Gospel tells us the almost cinematic story of Jesus walking on the water. This is primarily a story about faith, and its simple but dramatic message is that our faith saves us. St. Peter is the story’s “fall guy” or to be more accurate, “sink guy.” He wants so badly to be a believer, but whenever things start to go wrong he loses his courage.
Who can’t relate to that? We Christians are human, yet we ask to “be like Jesus.” This, after all, is what Jesus asks of us: not to doubt the power that God gives us humans who were “made . . . a little while lower than the angels” (Heb 2:7).
Prayer: O Lord, help my unbelief!
