With a 54-4-2 record and 38 knockouts, Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao knows how to pummel opponents into submission. Now, “Pac Man,” who also serves as a congressman representing the Sarangani district of the Philippines, has a formidable new foe — a health bill that would mandate sex education in schools and subsidize contraception.

According to a July 7 Wall Street Journal article, Pacquiao, who is Catholic, has joined Church leaders in the Philippines in speaking out against the bill, which — after years of debate — could be up for a vote in the next several weeks. President Benigno Aquino supports the legislation.

Time will tell if Pacquiao can help deliver the knockout punch against the bill, but it’s encouraging to see such a prominent figure witnessing to the truth of the Faith in the political ring.
