One year later: the resignation and the renewal

Today marks one year since Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI resigned, concluding what has been called the Year of Two Popes. That moment and this year have been transformative for the Church, and the impact has been felt far beyond its doors. As Matthew Bunson said in his In Focus article for OSV Newsweekly, Benedict opened the door to renewal.

Read “The Year of Two Popes” to commemorate this historical moment and its impact on the Church and the world. Also read Russell Shaw’s piece dispelling the rumors of discontinuity, “Papal similarities outweigh differences.”

And, of course, as Pope Francis encouraged in a tweet this morning, take the opportunity to pray for Pope Benedict.
