When we fast, we remind ourselves of how dependent we are on God. The physical hunger we feel is indicative of our spiritual hunger. Catholics now are only required to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, but as one of the three charisms of Lent, fasting is still encouraged throughout the season. And it doesn’t have to be food.
Hitting that much-loved snooze button would be a great habit to fast from. LIFE TEEN had an idea for mornings: When you wake up, immediately jump out of bed and kiss the floor. It’s not easy; it’s humbling; it’s a great Lenten sacrifice. It can set the tone for the day and help focus your body, mind and soul on Lent.

Each week during Lent I am sharing a quick tip on each of the three disciplines of the season: prayer, fasting and almsgiving. So tune in throughout the coming weeks for more ideas! Have a blessed first week of Lent!
