Mass Readings: Acts 6:8-15/John 6:22-29

The Gospels this week focus on Jesus as the Bread of Life. It starts today after He’s fed 5,000 people and they naturally respond with enthusiasm. A miracle worker! Let’s make Him king! Jesus heads for the hills because He recognizes the crowds’ intentions. When they find Him, He says, “You are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled. Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.”

We’ll always need to spend some time working for food that perishes. Trouble arises when our focus on perishables squeezes out the Imperishable: Jesus, the Bread of life.

Prayer: Son of God, help me to always keep You first in my life.
