Mass Readings: 2 Thessalonians 1:1-5,11-12/Matthew 23:13-22
The Real Thing
I’ve often thought that it would be fun writing a book showing the difference between what we say and what we do. Example: a before and after picture—me with a big bag of chips, saying, “Well, maybe I’ll just have one of these.” Next picture: empty bag. Another picture with a person reading a church bulletin article on “No Meat This Friday.” Next photo: person sitting at table with piles of lobster tails, crab legs, seafood in front of him.
This is the kind of thing we all do; and this is when we might hear Jesus in our conscience somewhere whispering, “Woe to you.” Like the scribes and Pharisees, we can sometimes be pretty foolish with ourselves, with our religion, with God. With God, all that’s asked is honesty and sincerity.
Prayer: Christ Jesus, we rely on Your Word for direction.
