Mass Readings: 1 Corinthians 1:26-31/Matthew 25:14-30

It Takes Courage

As I write this, I’m thinking of my good friend, Ron, whose funeral we attended today. Ron was an illustrator and songwriter, and a good one. Along with Ron’s two sons, I was able to pay Ron a public tribute. I had brought with me to the service a framed art print Ron had custom-made as a gift to me some years ago. The words were in his fine calligraphy, and they said simply, “Courage is fear that has said its prayers.”

Today’s parable of the talents ties in with this. It showed courage on the part of the servants to take a chance with the money their Master had given them. Ron had that kind of courage. I believe he was courageous because he was prayerful.

Prayer: Almighty God, give us the wisdom and strength to do Your will.
