Seek God Together

Several years ago I had the opportunity to write a book about St. Bernard of Clairvaux, whom we honor today. One of the things I learned about him was that he had very ambitious ideas. He not only wanted to reform the Benedictine Order, he wanted whole families to join the monastery. Yes, bring your sisters and your cousins and your aunts. At one time he had over 1,100 people at his French monastery.

Mainly, Bernard wanted to bring others onto the path toward pure holiness. He prayed, sincerely, “Let us prefer nothing whatever to Christ, and may He bring us all together to everlasting life.” The emphasis was on us all.

Prayer: Teach us, Lord, that seeking You is our most important task.
