Heart of Love

In a variety of ways the heart remains a symbol of love, from Cupid’s arrows on Valentine’s Day cards to bumper stickers declaring one’s affection for chocolate bars or Bassett hounds or . . . . Today’s celebration, the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, reminds us of God’s great love for us. Jesus encourages us to come to Him when we’re weary and find life burdensome. In Him, we find rest and renewal.

Called to be imitators of Christ, we’re supposed to love as He loves. In our families, workplaces, parishes, and neighborhoods, we’re to have hearts of love. To be a source of comfort and concrete action for those around us who, today, are weary and find life burdensome.

Prayer: Gracious God, may I love others as You have first loved me.
