Time and Commitment

Today the Church celebrates two of its greatest saints, both of whom were transformed. Peter moved from being an ordinary fisherman to the first Church leader. And Paul changed from a rigorous persecutor of Christians to become the apostle to the Gentiles and a great evangelist. Both accepted that transformation and, as martyrs, lived it as fully as a human being can.

Yes, Peter was called by Christ and Paul was struck blind on the road to Damascus but that was only the beginning of the change they underwent. The change they accepted and fostered. From fisherman, to pope, to martyr or from persecutor, to follower, to apostle, took time and commitment. God gives us time. The commitment is up to us.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, teach me to be more committed to my family, my responsibilities, and especially to You.
