Joy on the Mountain
“And everything was good again,” writes poet Dylan Thomas in A Child’s Christmas in Wales. He uses the line to express the supreme joy that the boy narrator feels when coming back home after a Christmas walk through his snowbound Welsh town, having faced many dangers, snares and scares. “Everything was good again.” It’s the same sentiment Peter, James and John surely felt at the Transfiguration. Peter was feeling so good that he wanted nothing more than to pitch tents and spend a few days reveling in what had occurred.
“Lord, it is good that we are here.” These were the actual words Peter used—simple, sincere and absolutely joy-filled. He wanted to preserve the moment and the feeling. It was like a foretaste of heaven, where everything is good all the time!
Prayer: May You, Lord, be forever glorified.
