Treasure in God

How do you measure wealth? Contemporary society says it’s one’s accumulated material goods: money and all the assorted things it can buy. But in the eyes of God, the material world — while a gift from the Lord and therefore good— can’t be our measure for wealth because it’s temporal.

We Christians need to seek to be rich in the eyes of the Lord, because our ultimate purpose in this world is to return to God. Jesus is clear: make it your practice to store up heavenly treasure. Material wealth can’t assist us to achieve our goal of salvation. A lot of people spend much of their time becoming wealthy in the sight of the world. Shouldn’t we spend as much or more time in growing rich in the sight of God?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to concentrate on You, not on the world.
