Mass Readings: Sirach 48:1-14/Matthew 6:7-15

Trust in God

A team of botanists asked a boy to go over the side of a cliff on a rope to obtain a rare plant. The child agreed, but said he needed some help and walked away. He returned with an older man and said, “I’ll go get your plant as long as this man holds the rope. He’s my father.”

Whom do you trust — family member, friend, God? It’s interesting when the disciples asked Jesus how to pray He responded with a prayer of praise, thanksgiving, and petition to the Father. Jesus trusted completely in His Father. Do we have sufficient courage to do likewise? The world suggests many alternatives, but Scripture has it right: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, on your own intelligence do not rely” (Prv 3:5).

Prayer: Father, help me to place my trust in You alone.
