This is the day, the feast of Mother Mary’s Assumption, that we celebrate Mary’s entry into heaven. She finally received her great reward after a life of so much pain and sorrow. But, more so, it’s after a life of unyielding faith and devotion to her Son. The other reason we can feel joy today is that Mary’s acceptance into heaven can be seen as a symbol of a promise Jesus made to us—that we too will someday be received into heaven.
Jesus, I’m sure, doesn’t expect us to be perfect like His mother. But He does have expectations, and we learn more about these expectations the more we study Scripture. So this is a very good day to ask Mary to help us be faithful, like she was.
Prayer: Mary, you’re our model of holiness. Help us be more like you.
