Mass Readings: Genesis 12:1-4a/2 Timothy 1:8b-10/Matthew 17:1-9
It was just a year ago that I began attending a support group for those who are grieving. More than once I’ve said that after Monica’s death it’s like I’m on the same planet but an almost completely different world. I thought of that image when I read today’s selection from Genesis: “Go forth from the land of your kinsfolk . . . to a land I will show you.”
Time and again throughout our lives, God tells us to “go forth” — or seems to push us out the door — and we have to be on our way. Whether we want to be or not. But, of course, He accompanies us. Whether we always realize it or not. And, as today’s reading also says, God promises “I will bless you.”
Prayer: Holy Spirit, give comfort and courage to those who have recently lost a loved one.
