Mass Readings: 1 Corinthians 4:1-5/Luke 5:33-39
When I hear Jesus ask in today’s Gospel, “Can you make the wedding guest fast while the bridegroom is with them?” I can’t help but recall the summer of 2012 when our family celebrated the marriages of two daughters, only six weeks apart! My mothering heart overflowed with so much gratitude and joy, I thought it’d burst.
Whether through everyday or extraordinary events, our life swings rhythmically between fasting and feasting. There will inevitably be times of sorrow and pain, moments we’re challenged to humbly fast and seek forgiveness and grace in the sacrament of reconciliation. But just as holy and sacred, there’ll be consecrated moments, even periods, in our life abounding in grace and joy. These are times when Jesus the Bridegroom allows us to simply relish, renew and grow in His presence.
Prayer: Whether I’m fasting or feasting, help me remember Lord that You are here.
