Mass Readings: Acts 8:1b-8/John 6:35-40
Good out of Bad
Today’s first reading records the beginning of the persecution of Christians. Stephen has just been stoned and now a man named Saul (later to become Paul) is going house to house, dragging people out and having them imprisoned. (Bad!) One of my favorite Bible verses is Romans 8:28 where Paul (yes, the former Saul) says, “We know that all things work for good for those who love God.” Persecution of the Church in Jerusalem caused Christians to scatter into Judea and Samaria, where they began telling others about Christ. (Good!)
God never wastes our suffering. If the Creator could bring good out of the murder of early Christians, He can do likewise in our lives. We can lay our pain before God and ask Him to bring some good out of it.
Prayer: Creator God, I set before You the following: _____________. Please bring good out of this situation.
