Mass Readings: Acts 2:14, 22–33/Matthew 28:8–15

Unruly Rosary

According to custom, the Mysteries of the Rosary for Monday are the Joyful. Today, however, and every day through next Sunday, I’ll break the rules and meditate on the Glorious Mysteries: Resurrection, Ascension, Descent of the Holy Spirit, Assumption, and Coronation of the Blessed Virgin. There are no binding rules on how to pray the Rosary, of course, since it began as the people’s prayer and was only later sanctioned by the Church.

The Octave of Easter is like a seven-day extension of Easter Sunday, making Easter day last 192 hours. So, if you’re uncomfortable with breaking the rules, consider today Sunday and pray the Glorious Mysteries. Besides, remember that Christ’s Resurrection also broke the rules about human life and death. As a rule breaker, you’ll be in good company.

Prayer: Alleluia! Mary, we rejoice with you in celebrating your Son’s victory over death. Alleluia!
