Mass Readings: Acts 4:32–37/John 3:7–15
Way to Heaven
St. Catherine of Siena was a wise 14th-century Italian Dominican who lived at home, dictated letters to the Pope asking him to return to Rome from France, and gave lavish spiritual advice to all who would listen.
One of her more famous sayings is “All the way to heaven is heaven.” She derived this thought from the Scripture passage where Jesus says, “I am the way and the truth and the life” (Jn 14:6). If the way to heaven is Jesus, St. Catherine reasoned, and if we are traveling with Him on the way, then we already have a taste of heaven on earth. We don’t have to wait to die, then, to experience heaven. The Kingdom of God is in our midst.
Prayer: St. Catherine, help us sinners to see the possibility of heaven on earth.
