Mass Readings: 1 John 1:1-4/John 20: 1a,2-8
In the opening of his first letter, today’s first reading, St. John passionately wanted to convey his experience of the Lord Jesus. John had been overwhelmed by “what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we looked upon and touched with our hands.” He had been so filled with the immensity of God’s love he was “writing this so that our joy may be complete.”
John often called the communities he wrote to and deeply loved “my children.” Catholic parents who want to share with their children God’s love through the life of the Church sometimes find their joy made complete. And sometimes, deeply saddening, not. In that scenario, prayer trumps blame, and the flame of charity should never die out.
Prayer: St. John, pray for those whose children don’t share the faith that they themselves cherish.
