Christmas Every Day?

Ever since I was little I’ve liked William Dean Howell’s short story “Christmas Every Day.” In it the Christmas Fairy grants a self-centered young girl’s wish to have Christmas every day instead of just once a year. But . . . things don’t work out as she had imagined. Before long people are slinging presents at each other and gift tags’ Yuletide best wishes have been replaced with “Take it, you horrid old thing” and the like.

Still, I’m reminded in this liturgical Christmas season that having Christmas every day isn’t always a bad thing. I don’t mean trees, lights, candy and presents. I mean remembering that Christ has come and lives with me always.

Prayer: Thank You, Jesus, for coming to me today.
