André and Joseph

Today’s saint is one of our “new” ones: He was canonized in 2010. Brother André Bessette (1845-1937) joined the Congregation of the Holy Cross in the same year (1870) that St. Joseph was declared Patron of the Universal Church. St. Joseph’s advocacy shone through Brother André as, throughout his long life, he prayed over and over for St. Joseph’s intercession. Literally thousands were cured, not by André, as he was quick to point out, but through the special intercession of Jesus’ foster father.

I was in fifth grade when Sister Jacqueline thought so highly of the paragraph about St. Joseph one student had written that she read it out loud to the class. I was astonished because that paragraph was mine! It’s partially thanks to that good sister and St. Joseph that I’m a writer who is writing today.

Prayer: St. Joseph and Brother André, I ask you for whatever healing I need at this time.
