Mass Readings: Isaiah 49:14-15/1 Corinthians 4:1-5/Matthew 6:24-34

God and Superman

Faster than a speeding bullet. More powerful than a locomotive. You remember the third line, right? Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. In today’s first reading, Isaiah doesn’t talk about speed or power or leaping ability to describe God’s love for you. Or me. He says God loves you (singular, you) the way a mother is tender to the baby in her womb. That He’ll never forget you, just as a mother always has her little one on her mind. But even if she did . . . God won’t.

God remembers me, even when I don’t think often of Him. God loves me, even when I choose to turn my back on Him. God forgives me — always, always, always forgives me — when I return to Him and ask His forgiveness.

Prayer: Loving Father, protect all the little ones still in the womb.
