The Lord comes to judge the earth. — Psalm 96:13b
Mass Readings: Revelation 14:14-19/Luke 21:5-11
In today’s Gospel, Jesus bluntly warns us about being deceived. He didn’t want His followers to be misled by imposters at His Second Coming. Jesus also understood that it’s hard to avoid being deceived. In everyday life, it seems that it’s only when we’ve already been deceived that we learn to avoid it. We develop a certain intuition, a sixth sense about what’s true and what isn’t. Comes in handy for television ads, used car salesmen, and political promises.
When it comes to personal relationships, however, it’s so easy to be wounded. Especially when we’re deceived by someone we trusted. There are countless stories without happy endings. The best we can do is to try to live in the truth and in the light. When we do, we won’t miss Jesus, the Light of the World.
Prayer: Jesus, Light of the World, help us to seek and find the truth.
