November 16, St. Margaret of Scotland

Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord! — Psalm 119:1b

Mass Readings: 2 John 4-9/Luke 17:26-37

Judgment Day

Jesus himself predicted that the world will end someday. But, He never said it was Dec. 21, 2012! That’s the latest “end times” date suggested by some interpreters of the ancient Mayan calendar. The calendar reportedly predicts that on Dec. 21, we will see a rare alignment of earth and sun, a reversal of the magnetic poles, and intense sunspot activity.

Jesus warned that “the end” will compare to the flood in Noah’s time, or the destruction of Sodom during Lot’s day. He said, “I tell you, on that night there will be two people in one bed; one will be taken, the other left.” But Christ, our compassionate judge, doesn’t want us worried every minute. We should live in readiness — loving God and one another, and ignoring tabloid prophecies at the checkout.

Prayer: Jesus, let me learn to live each day as if You are coming that day.
