Let hearts rejoice who search for the Lord. — Psalm 105:3
Mass Readings: Philippians 3:3-8a/Luke 15:1-10
In our early, inexperienced days as cat owners, Bailey, our cute but all-too-curious orange kitten got lost outside. Even though it was summer, our 4-year-old, Julie, was worried sick. As we scoured our yard and adjacent ones, she suddenly ran back into the house. Out she came a few minutes later with an angel drawing she’d recently done. “I’m showing it to the sky,” she confidently explained, holding it face up to the cloudless summer sky. She must have been thinking about angels sent from heaven to protect and guide us.
A few minutes later, we did find Bailey beneath some bushes. It’s tempting to say that Julie’s joy was just like that Jesus describes today. But God’s joy and the joy of His angels are so much greater when the lost are found.
Prayer: Good Shepherd, when I am lost, please call to me, find me, and bring me home.
