The Lord is faithful in all his words. — Psalm 145:13c
Mass Readings: Ephesians 6:1-9 / Luke 13:22-30
When I read about the narrow gate in today’s Gospel, I consider the lives of the saints. The many sacrifices they made just to be with God show what walking through the narrow gate may be like.
Humility seems to be the key that will open the narrow gate. I think I’ll be surprised to see who the first and last into heaven are. I may realize that so many of the marginalized people in the world today will get front row seats at the heavenly banquet, while the well-to-do may be on the outside looking in. The challenge for me is to give up my places of honor in this life, so that God may offer them to me in the next.
Prayer: Jesus meek and humble of heart, give me the humility to enter the narrow gate.
