You have given your Son rule over the works of your hands. — Psalm 8:7
Mass Readings: Ephesians 1:15-23 / Luke 12:8-12
One summer, I served as an Evangelical missionary in Chile. After performing dramas in local villages, we prayed for anyone who needed it. I followed the Chilean members of my team around as they prayed with people, but one time, a man wanted me to pray for him.
I had studied some Spanish, but certainly didn’t feel confident with such an important task. I tried to back out, but could tell that it would only hurt him. My heart pounded as I asked the Spirit to guide me. I don’t remember what I said, but I do remember the light in that man’s eyes when I finished. Today’s Gospel reminds me that the Spirit does, in fact, give us the right things to say if we’re open to it.
Prayer: Spirit of God, use me as a mouthpiece for the Gospel.
