Guide me, Lord, along the everlasting way. — Psalm 139:24b
Mass Readings: Job 38:1, 12-21; 40:3-5 / Luke 10:13-16
Every summer my wife hounds me about the condition of the dry, cracked skin on my feet. She lines the bathroom counter with lotions and foot scrubs, insisting that I take care of myself. I know she’s right, but admitting that means that I must change my habits, something I’m both too stubborn and too lazy to do.
By the end of August my cracked heels starts to hurt, and when I complain about it, my wife could easily echo the refrain in today’s Gospel, “Woe to you.” I think that’s the message Jesus is sending in today’s Gospel. I hear Him say to the cities, “The Good News of the Kingdom of Heaven is for your benefit, but if you reject it, suffering will follow.”
Prayer: Incarnate Word, help me to graciously receive Your message.
