Incline your ear to me and hear my word. — Psalm 17:6
Mass Readings: Job 1:6-22 / Luke 9:46-50
Today, we celebrate the feast of St. Thérèse, the Little Flower. Her “Little Way” to holiness involves doing small things with great amounts of love. When I served as a missionary in Canada, I witnessed this little way firsthand.
We were preparing for an All Saints party for Halloween, and I was much like the disciples in today’s Gospel: preoccupied with how my costume and role in the party would be the greatest. When confronted with a rotting pumpkin that needed to be cleaned out for decorations that evening, I turned up my nose, insisting the chore was beneath me. One of my fellow missionaries, Lisa, took the pumpkin without fanfare and promptly cleaned it; neither shaming me, nor seeking praise. In that act, she showed me the way to Jesus.
Prayer: Lord, remind me of the “Little Way” to You.
