September 4, Tuesday Weekday

The Lord is just in all his ways, and kind in all his doings. — Psalm 145:17

Mass Readings: 1 Corinthians 2:10b-16 / Luke 4:31-37

The Mind of Christ

Father André Louf, former abbot of the Cistercian monastery of Mont-des-Cats, France, taught that, “If prayer enables us the better to understand the Father’s will, it also helps us to penetrate deeper into reality. To a heart steeped in prayer everything becomes transparent. To it is disclosed the inmost core of being.” St. Paul describes this in today’s first reading as he exhorts the Corinth community, “The one who is spiritual . . . can judge everything,” reminding all of us who follow Jesus, “we have the mind of Christ.”

Sometimes prayer is difficult. I don’t feel anything. I wonder what difference it makes. But what happens during prayer isn’t what’s important, as long as I do it. The fruits of prayer become evident in how I judge and respond to reality, steeped in the mind of Christ.

Prayer: Help me make time with You, Lord, my top priority.
