Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own. — Psalm 33:12
Mass Readings: 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 / Matthew 25:14-30
On first reading today’s Gospel, I’m surprised by Jesus’ harsh words toward the man who, seemingly cautious, buried his one talent: “You wicked, lazy servant!” But when I reread the parable’s opening, the significance of what it was each man was given stuns me. The man “entrusted his possessions to them,” all that was his. How could he not be upset with the servant who opted to do nothing with his master’s possessions, who literally buried those talents? Who does that?
I do. Every time I take a shortcut rather than give my all. Or I opt to watch TV rather than keep an evening commitment. Or when I disregard my husband’s needs because I’m tired. I’ll never be asked to give more than I’m able to, with God’s grace.
Prayer: Today, I offer You myself, as I am, my Lord.
