Lord, in your great love, answer me. — Psalm 69:14
Mass Readings: Jeremiah 26:1-9 / Matthew 13:54-58
The teaching of Jesus in today’s Gospel caused both astonishment and offense in His home town. Jesus was carrying out the will of His Father, and yet those closest to Him could not accept Him. Isn’t it sometimes most difficult to do the right thing “at home” in our daily lives? Isn’t it often most challenging to serve those who know us best, but are impressed by us least?
Yet, Jesus gives us an example. Though Jesus did more miracles elsewhere, He still performed them for His hometown. We too are called to live as God wants, to serve at home, to be followers of Jesus among those who know us best — even when they appreciate us least. God always sees and appreciates the good we do, and that’s ultimately what matters.
Prayer: Dear God, help me to serve those closest to me today, even if unappreciated.
