July 15, Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us your salvation. — Psalm 85:8

Mass Readings: Amos 7:12-15 / Ephesians 1:3-14 or 1:3-10 / Mark 6:7-13

Middle-aged Plus

Remember early June as a child when it seemed that summer would last forever? No school for three months! Then, at about this point in those 12 weeks, came the chilling thought that half of vacation was over. And those awful back-to-school ads began to pop in the newspaper!

Remember your youth and young adulthood when it seemed your life on earth would stretch on forever? It was mostly old people who died but you weren’t old. You weren’t even middle-aged. (And, let’s be honest. You thought middle-aged was old.) Now . . . like those last weeks of summer, life seems more precious and moving faster. It helps to remember it’s God who moves with us, and who waits for us at the end of our “summer.”

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me spend my time on earth wisely.
