The house of Israel trusts in the Lord. — Psalm 115:9
Mass Readings: Hosea 8:4-7,11-13 / Matthew 9:32-38
We’re all familiar with the verse from today’s Gospel that reads “the harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.” And, I suspect, we’ve all done that. We’ve said those prayers not realizing sometimes God’s answer is . . . us.
It reminds me of a boss I had whose immediate reaction to anyone’s good suggestion for what needed to be done was “Great! Go do that!” It taught us staff members to think carefully before opening our mouths. We thought we already had enough to do. In a similar way, we can see the harvest is great. We can see laborers are needed. And God can see that, in some cases, we’re just the right worker for the job.
Prayer: Lord, send me where I’m needed.
