God upholds his city for ever. — Psalm 48:(see 9)
Mass readings: 2 Kings 19:9-11,14-21,31-35,36 / Matthew 7:6,12-14
The Road Less Travelled was a very popular book when I was in my 30s. It really spoke to me as I was entering a phase, trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I “grew up.” Toward the end of the book, the author talks about the grave responsibility God puts on us: We are to “enter through the narrow gate,” as it says in today’s Gospel; we are to take the road less traveled. Jesus was distressed that so many prefer to simply follow the beaten path. We are rather to take “the road that leads to life.”
Yes, this road to life is tough. But it’s the road we take when we accept the awesome responsibility to love one and all.
Prayer: Lord, we walk with You. Show us the way to losing ourselves in love.
