Your right hands saves me, O Lord. — Psalm 138:7
Mass readings: Acts 16:22-34 / John 16:5-11
Today’s readings are about transformation and transition. The greater, though less dramatic, miracle and “release” in today’s reading from Acts was the transformation of the jailer into an enthusiastic Christian and hospitable healer. Jesus, in today’s Gospel, works to “transition” grieving disciples to accept His departure as prerequisite for the coming of the Spirit and greater growth in faith and ministry.
My preschool students often have trouble “transitioning” (from classroom to therapy and back, for example). Don’t we all! Everyone’s life is full of transitions. I fear leaving areas I’m good at for new challenges. God so often calls us out of our “comfort zones,” moving us away from the familiar. Transition is hard, but God goes with us to lead us to higher ground.
Prayer: Lord, help us through the transitions in our lives. Help us to trust in You.
