The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power. — Psalm 98:(see 2)
Mass readings: Acts 10:25-26,34-35,44-48 / 1 John 4:7-10 / John 15:9-17
Today’s second reading and Gospel, which focus on God’s love, are beautifully appropriate for Mother’s Day. There’s no greater earthly example of God’s unconditional, life-giving, nurturing, and sacrificial love than the love of a wonderful mother!
Like God, our mothers loved us first — before we could ever respond. Like God, our moms know us most intimately and love us unconditionally through childbirth’s pain, infant helplessness, childhood challenges, and the struggles of emerging from adolescence into adulthood. Like the Lord, my mom is still the one I know I can count on to be there to provide constant love, support, encouragement, counsel, and a listening ear. Moms take our hands and gently guide us in the way of God’s commandments, because they desire what Jesus desires for us: fruitful lives and complete joy.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for mothers whose lives are shining reflections of Your love.
