All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God. — Psalm 98:3
Mass readings: Acts 13:44-52 / John 14:7-14
Today’s reading from Acts 13:44-52 shows Paul and Barnabas turning from their own people, the Jews, to whom the Gospel was presented first, to the Gentiles, in fulfillment of Isaiah 49:6: “I have made you a light to the Gentiles, so that you may be an instrument of salvation to the ends of the earth.”
In mid-life I left the corporate world and sought a career involving speaking, writing, and singing about God. At first I dismissed any recommendation that was not “ministry.” But the door God opened for me was a state-funded preschool for children with special needs. Often God calls us beyond our “comfort zone” to be a light to those who don’t share our faith tradition and His instruments of love so they may encounter Jesus living in us.
Prayer: Lord, make us Your light and Your instrument of love to all we encounter.
