May 4, Friday Easter Weekday

You are my Son; this day I have begotten you. — Psalm 2:7

Mass readings: Acts 13:26-33 / John 14:1-6

A Dwelling Place

Today’s Gospel presents wonderful words of comfort and peace and, amazingly, Jesus speaks them with full awareness of His imminent suffering and death. He tells His disciples (including us) not to be troubled but to have faith. He promises that He’s going to prepare a dwelling place for us and that in His Father’s house there are lots of rooms.

One of my most beloved pastors liked this Gospel reading for funeral Masses. He encouraged those grieving to picture their loved one in the place that Jesus has specifically prepared for him or her. We can do that, too. Take a moment now to think of a loved one in heaven. Jesus has designed a dwelling place uniquely and best suited for him or her. Imagine what that must be like! Heaven.

Prayer: Thank You, Jesus, for Your infinite love in preparing dwelling places for each of us.
