Athirst is my soul for the living God. — Psalm 42:(see 3)
Mass readings: Acts 11:1-18 / John 10:1-10
I recognize my dad when he calls me. I’m not just talking about the distinctive sound of his voice. I’m referring to his way of speaking. His whole personality and character come out in his voice, in even a brief conversation. It’s a caring, concerned voice. When I’m on the phone with him, we may be talking about the weather or sports but I know that I’m his son and he loves me.
In today’s Gospel (in verses just before yesterday’s Gospel), Jesus describes how the sheep follow the Good Shepherd because they recognize His voice. How do we do that? By spending time with the Shepherd and by listening for Him in a world filled with so much noise and so many distractions.
Prayer: Lord, let me hear Your voice today.
