April 29, Fourth Sunday of Easter

The stone rejected by the builders has become the cornerstone. — Psalm 118:22

Mass readings: Acts 4:8-12 / 1 John 3:1-2 / John 10:11-18

Good Shepherds

Being a father has changed me as I try to guide and protect my three sons. Being a dad affects how I drive. It impacts how I talk. (I try not to lose my temper, gossip, or be impatient.) It changes the way I interact with my wife: I believe it’s true if you want to be a good father then love your wife. I believe kids heed what you do more than what you say. That’s why I need to be at my best. It’s my job to shepherd them through childhood.

In today’s Gospel Jesus identifies himself as the Good Shepherd who loves us and cares for us. He’s a shepherd who never forces His sheep to follow. Rather, He calls us, personally, one by one, and invites us to let Him lead the way home to our heavenly Father.

Prayer: Good Shepherd, help me lead those you’ve put under my care.
