The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty. — Psalm 93:1
Mass readings: Acts 4:32-37 / John 3:7-15
I’m frugal. There’s no getting around it. I take out my wallet grudgingly. That’s why, when I was still single, my married sister warned me I’d be in for “a rude awakening.” I’d have to make financial decisions with someone less frugal than I am. She was right. It’s not easy to find common ground here with my wife. We argue about money. It’s a struggle we still endure.
In today’s first reading we hear how Jesus’ early followers “had everything in common.” They shared their possessions. Out of love for one another they made sure there was “no needy person among them.” They considered what they owned as a blessing to be used for others. Our communities — and families! — could be so much better off if we took that to heart!
Prayer: Lord, let me share with those in need and with those I love.
